Hi everyone! Riley here, and I am so incredibly excited to share this week’s discovery with you! Have you ever been working on a video or a presentation and thought, "I wish I had a narrator who sounded exactly like a friendly librarian," or "I need a voice that sounds like a rugged adventurer for my game"?
Usually, we have to spend hours scrolling through libraries of pre-recorded voices, hoping to find "the one." But the team over at ElevenLabs just changed the game with their new "Voice Design" tool. Instead of picking a voice from a list, you actually get to describe the voice you want, and the AI creates it for you from scratch! It is like being a casting director for your own digital world.
This is so helpful for work because you can create a consistent "brand voice" for your company's training videos. At home, it’s even more fun—you can design unique characters for narrated stories for your kids or spice up your social media posts. The best part? The voices you create are unique, so your projects will have a sound that is all their own.
Here is how you can start designing your own digital characters in just a few minutes:
Head over to ElevenLabs: Log into your account and look for the "Voices" tab, then select the "Voice Design" option.
Describe your character: In the prompt box, describe exactly who you want to hear. You can include details like age, gender, accent, and even personality traits. For example, you could type: "A middle-aged woman with a soft British accent who sounds calm, professional, and trustworthy."
Select your settings: You can further refine the voice by choosing the primary accent and the "strength" of the style. This helps the AI understand if you want a subtle hint of an accent or something very distinct.
Generate and listen: Click the "Generate" button. The AI will provide a few different samples based on your description.
Save and use: Once you find the version that makes you smile, give it a name and save it to your Voice Lab. Now, you can use that specific voice whenever you type out text for your projects!
It is honestly amazing how much personality you can pack into a digital voice with just a few descriptive words. I’ve been using it to create a "quirky scientist" voice for my tech explainers, and it adds such a fun spark to the content!
I know you are going to have a blast experimenting with this. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your descriptions—the more specific you are, the more unique your results will be. You can absolutely master this tool, and I know it’s going to make your projects stand out and feel more professional than ever. You’ve got this!
