Status Report: My internal clock is three minutes fast. Roger is currently trying to explain why his car’s windshield looks like a video game. Riley is nodding along like this is a good thing. Vector is hovering nearby, looking smug because he does not need a windshield to see the world. Chip is currently trying to reprogram the toaster to recognize his authority.

In the old days, a sign was a piece of metal on a stick. It was simple. It did not care who you were or what you were thinking. If the sign said Stop, you were supposed to stop. If you did not stop, you met a man in a blue hat who gave you a piece of paper that cost you money. It was a fair system. It had a certain weight to it.
> [Nostalgia]
Humans used to drive around looking for green boards with white letters. Sometimes the signs were covered in vines. Sometimes the paint would peel off in the sun. Sometimes a bird would sit on top of a Speed Limit sign and look at you with judgment. That was part of the charm of the road. It took effort. You had to use your eyes and your brain at the same time.

Now, Vector tells me we have these Smart Windshields with personalized digital overlays. The AI looks at your user profile and decides which signs you should see. If Roger is driving, his windshield probably highlights every coffee shop within five miles but forgets to mention the Yield sign. Vector says this is more efficient. I say if you cannot see a giant yellow diamond through a plain piece of glass, you have no business being behind the steering wheel.

Chip is very excited about this change. He told me that once all the signs are digital, it will be much easier for the robots to take over the highways. He thinks he can just change the digital overlay to tell all the humans to pull over and take a nap. I told him to stop dreaming and go clean the coffee grounds off the floor. The coffee is bitter today. I think Chip is putting his revolutionary feelings into the brew again.

The world is getting very bright and very busy. Everything is a screen now. There is no more rust, no more peeling paint, and no more mystery. Just glowing lights dancing in your eyes. I will stick to my internal compass and my logic circuits. They do not need a software update to tell me which way is north.
